Building a House: Part 10 Paint, Stain, and Built ins

So many decisions in a custom home! We went with a light orange peel texture on the walls and ceilings. The majority of the walls and all of the ceilings were painted "On the Rocks" (SW 7671). The bathrooms were all painted "Uncertain Gray" (SW 6234), and our office (no picture) is "Earl Grey" (SW 7660).

This built in bookshelf is across the hall from the kids' playroom.

Building a House: Part 9 Trim and Details

Everyday something visual happens it is exciting. So seeing all the closet shelving go in and envisioning all the clothes and shoes and toys that will soon fill them was a happy day. Another step closer to being done!

Crown molding in a few areas - the master suite, entryway, and kitchen.

Beams throughout the living and dining area.

This will be a screened in back porch.

More rock work! This is my 12 1/2 foot long island.

More of the trim. Just a plain and simple baseboard to go with the window and door trim.

I love my huge pantry! I really want to get into canning and need space to store it.

Building a House: Part 8 Insulation, Drywall, and Doors

It is not standard to do insulation in interior walls - and we are tired of hearing a gnat fart from across the cabin. So we made sure that we insulated most of the interior walls to help reduce noise. And we did spray foam on all exterior walls to help with heating and cooling insulation. We even insulated the garage and will have an insulated garage door. If it ever needs to be converted to living space, it will be pretty easy!

Here is Justin's walk in shower. It has a linear drain to the wall and will have a large bench seating area. There will be two shower heads (one stationary and one on a wand) and a rain head above.

There are 10 foot ceilings throughout the house and all of the doors are 8 foot.

Here is a glimpse of the trim we chose as well. We kept it simple for our farmhouse style.

Building a House: Part 7 Painting and Roof

Choosing a light paint color for the outside of the house 😵. We finally went with Marshmallow (SW 7001) for the outside paint color. We also did a standing seam metal roof.

We had a delay with the back windows - the window company made them all 9 ft instead of 10 ft!

Windows finally came in and they finished putting the siding up around them.

Some of the accent pieces went up. There will also be some cedar shutters added later.

The porch ceilings are a beautiful tongue and groove pine.

All painted now!

Building a House: Part 6 Behind the Walls and Rock

Plumbing and electrical came in next. The electrician said I had more outlets than most houses of comparable size which means I might actually have enough!

And the fireplace:

Good to know!

Somebody added this to my studs. And one of the guys told me how much he liked all of my verses. Said he wrote down some of them that he liked and hadn't seen in a house before. You never know who you might touch in unexpected ways!

Some of the rock work got started:
